1984

The year I left Australia and toured all around Europe, first on a "Contiki" bus tour, then in a campervan.

	The spectacular Roman Pont du Gard in southern France, with braver people than me standing on the top.		Gaudi's (unfinished) cathedral "La Sagrada Familia" in Barcelona. Incredibly ornate and "organic".
	Monte Carlo.		Mad King Ludwig's castle "Neuschwanstein" in Bavaria - inspiration for Disney's Fantasyland.
	A justly famed beauty spot - the "Ring of Kerry" off the south coast of Ireland.		Tintern Abbey in England.
	Stonehenge. In those days you could get closer to it than is now allowed.		The ancient Forum in Rome.
	Cast of the body of a man buried by the eruption of Vesuvius at Pompeii.		The ruins of the Coliseum in Rome.
	My brother Ian with Su Shepherd at Hayward's Heath.		A spectacular view of Firenze.

1981

I saved some money from my first real job and had a great holiday cruising around the South Pacific for 17 days, visiting Vila, Suva, East and West Samoa, Java and Noumea.

	In a sailor suit and clown makeup, as worn for the "The Jack and Jill Story", a play for which I provided incidental music.		A magic moment - sailing into Sydney harbour at sunrise at the end of a 17-day cruise around the South Pacific.
	Living coral in an aquarium in Noumea. It's slightly blurred because it was a long handheld exposure.		More coral in an aquarium. We saw real coral like this snorkelling on the barrier reef in 1996, but I couldn't photograph it.
	The old open-sided parliament building on one of the islands, recently replaced with a modern building.		The cruise ship - the "Fairstar".
	A rock formation known as "London Bridge" along the Great Ocean Road near Port Campbell on the south coast of Victoria.		Again in 1999, some time after part of it collapsed, stranding some tourists who had to be rescued by helicopter.
	Flying around the 432m Omega VLF navigation beacon in a helicopter to calibrate it.		Taken by my friend Peter Kennedy at a dinner party at which I provided some incidental music.
	My new motorbike, complete with "L" plates. I hurt myself only once, when a pedestrian ran into me and knocked me over as I waited, stationary, at a level crossing.

Most pictures on this page were taken with a Konica Autoreflex T4 SLR, then scanned from slides with a Plustek OpticPro UT12 scanner and reduced in resolution for the web.
